Piripriri Point, Long Bay

Dates and Description

Dates

March 2019 – September 2023

Description

Green by Nature was engaged to complete a revegetation of wetland areas and the implementation of approximately 50,000 shrubs and trees on 5 ha of farmland and scrub, with a maintenance period of three years.

Challenges

There were challenges with pests – possums, rabbits and hares – Green by Nature put a programme in place to ensure new plants were protected. There were also some weather challenges, where small slips needed to be repaired and different plantings done to ensure slips did not occur again. The project was completed on time and on budget.

Solutions

We carried out the ground preparation for planting of approximately 4.5 ha in three gullies, carried out tractor mowing and blanket spraying (x2) of 46,3000 m3. We mulched with enriched compost, and put coco matting on the wetland gullies – 10,000m2. We planted and staked 43,000 Grade 1 and 2 trees, shrubs and ground cover. We planted and staked 223 Vitex Lucens trees – and then provided maintenance of all areas and plantings for three years.

“This was a really important sustainability effort and our team were delighted to be a part of it”
